Polls

Journo polls go from a quick yes-or-no to anonymous votes limited to one role. Simple polls use Discord's own poll; as soon as you pick an option Discord can't do, Journo runs the poll itself with a vote menu.

Step 1: the question

Run /poll create in the channel where the poll should go, or run /settings there, pick Polls and press Start a poll here. A pop-up asks for:

FieldWhat to writeExample
QuestionThe main question, up to 300 charactersWhere should the October trip go?

Step 2: the options

Next you get a preview where you can change every option before posting:

OptionWhat it does
AnonymousNobody, not even staff, can see who voted for what
Public resultsMembers see the current results while the poll runs
Hidden resultsResults stay hidden until the poll ends (staff can still check)
Allow vote changesMembers can change or remove their vote. Off = votes are final
Max selectionsWith multiple choice: how many options one member may pick
Role restrictionOnly members with these roles can vote
Channel restrictionOnly members who can see a chosen channel can vote
Results displayBars, percentages and/or vote counts
Automatic announcementPost the results when the poll ends, in the poll's channel or one you choose

Press Post poll. The preview tells you whether it will be a Discord poll or a Journo poll, and why.

Discord polls and Journo polls

  • Discord polls run 1 hour to 32 days and use Discord's own buttons. Used when no option needs more.
  • Journo polls run up to 90 days. Members vote from a menu and have My vote, Remove my vote and Results buttons. Used for anonymous voting, hidden results, final votes, a maximum, role or channel limits, or longer polls.

Managing polls

  • /poll list: running and recent polls.
  • /poll results: current or final results of one poll.
  • /poll voters: who voted for what (Journo polls that aren't anonymous).
  • /poll end: close a poll now and post the results.

The results are kept, so AI growth advice can use them.

Defaults and who can run polls

Staff can always run polls; in /settings > Polls you can let other roles do it too. The same page sets the starting point for every new poll: default length, anonymous, hidden results, vote changes, results display, which roles may vote, and whether and where results are announced. You can still change everything per poll.
