Features

Help desk

The help desk is an AI assistant that answers members' questions from your own content: your rules, FAQ, guides and wiki. It doesn't make things up from the internet.

Teach it

Admins add knowledge in any of these ways:

  • /kb add-text: type or paste text in a pop-up window. Good for rules, FAQs and how-to-join steps.
  • /kb add-file: upload a .txt, .md, .pdf or .html file.
  • /kb add-url: give it a web page, such as a wiki or rules page.
  • Right-click any message and choose Apps > Teach the assistant to add it in one click. You can let more roles do this in /settings > AI assistant.

/kb list shows everything it has learned, and /kb remove forgets one source by its number.

How members ask

  • /ask followed by the question, in any channel.
  • Or just ask in a channel you've chosen for automatic answers. There, Journo only replies to messages with a question mark or that mention it. To pick a channel, run /settings in it, choose AI assistant and press Answer questions here.

Useful settings

In /settings > AI assistant:

  • Only answer from knowledge (on by default): if the answer isn't in what you taught it, it says it doesn't know instead of guessing.
  • Questions per member per hour (15 by default) and a rough cap on answer length.

In Guardrails you can add topics it must refuse and a short line under every AI answer, such as "AI answer, staff have the final say". See Guardrails.
