Features

AI watch

The AI watch reads the channels you choose and checks each message against your own rules, written in plain words. When a rule is broken, the member gets a strike, and your punishment ladder decides what happens.

Set it up

  1. Run /watch setup. In the first window, write your rules, one per line, and your punishment ladder, one step per line.
  2. In the second window, pick the channels to watch, any roles to skip, and switch on Enabled and Practice mode.
  3. Watch the reports for a few days. When you're happy, switch practice mode off.

Shortcut: run /settings in a channel, pick AI watch and press Watch this channel. The first time you do this, Journo switches the watch on in practice mode, so nobody is punished until you say so. /watch channel also starts or stops watching the channel you're in.

Rules

The default rules are: no insults or harassment aimed at other members, no hate speech or slurs, no sexual content, no advertising other Discord servers and no threats of violence. A rule can contain commas.

You can also list instant words: words that earn a strike straight away, without asking the AI.

The punishment ladder

Each line is strike:action. The default is:

1:warn
2:warn
3:warn
4:lose_points:50
5:timeout:60
6:kick

So the first three strikes are warnings, the 4th costs 50 activity points, the 5th is a 60 minute timeout and the 6th is a kick. Strikes past the last step repeat it. Actions: warn, lose_points:N, timeout:MINUTES, kick, ban. Journo needs the Ban Members permission for ban; see Permissions.

You can add an extra action for severe breaks such as threats or slurs (a 60 minute timeout by default).

Being fair

  • Practice mode reports what Journo would do without deleting or punishing anything.
  • /watch test checks a sample message against your rules without punishing anyone.
  • Every strike is posted to your log with a Pardon button. Pardoning gives back points and lifts timeouts. /watch pardon does the same by number.
  • How sure the AI must be (0.75 by default) sets the balance between fewer mistakes and fewer missed breaks.
  • Strikes are forgotten after 30 days by default.
  • Staff, and any roles you exempt, are never checked.
  • Members are told by DM which rule they broke and what happened (you can switch this off).

/watch status shows how it's set up and recent strikes. /watch strikes shows one member's strikes. Strikes also show in /warnings.

On the Tactical theme, the AI watch knows that kills, headshots and "I'll wipe you next round" are game talk, not threats.
